Wally's Dome Observatory

The Winter Solstice sun rises above the Sacramento Mountains, perfectly aligning itself within the rocks at Wally’s Dome archaeoastronomy site. Ancient mountain dwellers used solstice observation posts such as these, to determine the precise planting and harvest season. Seasonal weather here is distinct, with harsh heat and cold temperatures. Having a slip of the start of planting season would have been disastrous to any culture surviving primarily on agrarian means.
