Northrup Strip
White Sands Space Harbor

During the Space Shuttle program, [White Sands Space Harbor, formerly Northrup Strip] was used extensively by the Shuttle Training Aircraft. The STAs, modified versions of the Gulfstream II, were designed to mimic the shuttle’s aerodynamic behavior inside an atmosphere.

The shuttle was nicknamed “the Flying Brick,” so pilots required additional means to practice landing.
